The importance of translators in the era of machine translation

With the development of technology, robots are successfully replacing humans in many areas. And because of this, many professions simply disappear. Is a translator needed now, in the era of machine translation? Of course, this is a controversial topic for many. After all, today's people believe that in the era of machine translation, the translation profession has become irrelevant, and many even consider this profession useless. But as a future translator of this era, I want to prove to you the opposite.

The era of globalization, world business, international relations require knowledge of languages. But not all people have the opportunity to learn several languages perfectly.
The profession of a translator, like no other, has been subject to changes as a result of the rapid development of globalization, and for the better. Distances and national boundaries are erased, but multilingualism remains. The translation industry has become part of the international communication system, the development of which, as a result of globalization, has been extremely fast in recent years.

The work of a translator is still important in two main areas:
Literary translation
It is impossible to translate a detective story, poem, play or classic novel without special skills, knowledge and experience. In this case, machine translation, carried out by numerous translation programs, is not able to fully convey the emotions of the author, the colorfulness and diversity of his work. In many cases of machine translation, the work becomes too formal or scientific. The same applies to technical translation. The specialist must understand the terminology, and fully possess the knowledge in the field of his activity. And that is why, while studying at the university, future translators are prepared for this.

Diplomatic translation
Diplomatic translation is required during economic, political, military negotiations, as well as in business negotiations. This area requires fundamental training, knowledge of not only the language, but also the cultural context, psychological readiness for any situations, intuition, and special education. The machine does not possess emotions, and does not know that each person needs an individual approach. A deep understanding of the needs of both parties is a key skill of the translator. And I believe that thanks to the impeccable command of the translator's language, many international negotiations ended in success.

I believe that no machine can replace emotionality, knowledge in various fields of activity, and, of course, knowledge of the psychology of communication and mastery of human communication skills. After all, only people can possess the ability to convince the reader and listener. And only a person can understand the feelings and thoughts of another person.
