A brief discussion on the uniqueness of American culture
—- Take "American factory" as an example —
Introduction:
The documentary "American factory" tells the story of Fuyao Group in the United States Ohio General Motors factory site investment and construction of things. Because America's tax burden is lighter than China's, and American workers ' basic wages plus “five insurance and one gold “are 4% cheaper than Chinese workers, Fuyao decided to build a factory in Ohio, which gave many American unemployed workers hope. But after the factory really started, the cultural differences between China and the United States to Fuyao's development in the United States brought various challenges. The change in American workers ' attitudes towards Fuyao and the strong demand for unionization in the film reflect the uniqueness of American culture.
Main part:
1.    Human rights awareness in the United States
The United States is a very human rights-oriented country, and it was the first country to include equal opportunities in the Constitution (but it is not perfect at this time).During his tenure, Jefferson, the third president of the United States, supplemented the Constitution by establishing the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness as inalienable and irrevocable fundamental human rights. As can be seen from here, the United States regards human rights as very important. Americans believe that without human rights and freedoms, there is no way to talk about happiness in life. In the documentary "American factory," many American workers began to protest against what they saw as human rights violations such as poor working conditions and extended working hours, and their inability to adapt to such a stressful and dangerous working environment. Because the United States earlier entered the process of modernization, so from the institutional point of view, the state on all aspects of people's protection is more perfect. Workers in the factory to work is rarely encountered in this situation, which led to a lot of workers in order to defend their rights, support the UAW (National Federation of auto workers) intervention, hoping that the UAW can protect their rights, so the United States workers and Fuyao began a union dispute.
The workers strongly supported the involvement of the UAW because they were determined to uphold their human rights. In such cases, only trade union organizations such as the UAW can protect workers from violations of their rights. Under the protection of trade unions, enterprises cannot arbitrarily dismiss workers, squeeze workers, to give workers reasonable wages and benefits, and to provide workers with a good and safe working environment. However, there is a huge contradiction between the purpose of trade unions to protect human rights and the development goals of enterprises. Because of the two sides of things, the existence of trade unions means that the production costs of automotive companies are getting higher and higher, resulting in losses. As can be seen from the trade union dispute, Americans pay attention to human rights consciousness and will not allow themselves to be wronged.
2.    liberalism in the United States
I was very impressed by the two libertarian images in “American factory. “One is the Chinese staff training, the lecturer said: “one of the characteristics of Americans, is casual enough to joke with the president. “Another is the most dramatic scene in the film, in which American workers ' managers are completely dumbfounded by the semi-militarized management of Fuyao's Chinese factories and want to go back to American factories to emulate China's practices. However, China's management model clearly does not work for a liberalized United States, where most workers are still listless, slow, and rambling, a state that I think is closely related to American liberalism.
The United States has a tradition of liberalism, which is actually one of the ideological roots of America's independence. American liberalism is not always static, but with the progress of society, continuous change, every time trying to adapt to the needs of society at that time. In the end, the United States has a unique, historically formed liberal idea that meets its own development needs. In this free country, the free thought of the people is not suppressed, the access to knowledge and information is not restricted, the freedom of expression is not restricted, they can do anything to the extent permitted by law, even with guns to defend their freedom. The free culture of the United States has made the American people accustomed to a comfortable, casual life, the arbitrariness of American workers in the film is precisely because it has been influenced by liberalism.
3.    American Society and Individualism
Individualism, as the core of American values, has had a great impact on the development of American society. The development of American individualism dates back to the period of the French Enlightenment, the first individualism appeared in the carols, and later through the westward movement and World War II, individualism was handed down from generation to generation. American individualism is reflected in all aspects of life, such as: independent life, do not depend on parents; independent character, like to be alone; independent thinking, like innovation; independent ability, believe in personal ability, etc. In "American factory", there is such a picture: Fuyao American executives to visit the headquarters in China, to watch the Spring Festival Gala-style performance and the end of the performance of the employee group wedding. Finally, executives want to stop, came to a mixed conclusion: we are one. He believes that no matter how different our cultures are, in the final analysis we are one. Why would he say that? I think the American employee must have been surprised by the Chinese employee's view of the factory as a bond, family-like existence. Under the long-term influence of individualistic ideas, Americans must not understand the management methods of Chinese companies.
Individualistic ideas are also reflected in the attitude towards teamwork. They believe that social relationships are based on the autonomy of each person, so it is weak to rely on colleagues at work. Americans are usually not good at meeting the emotional need
4.    Educational philosophy in the United States
At the end of the film, I was very impressed by a worker who said a word while imagining a future life. “If children want to, send them to college, " he said. That is to say, if the child is willing to send do not want nor forced. This shows that American education respects the child's personality and interests, focuses on the development of children's comprehensive ability, continue to tap the child's potential, and ultimately the purpose is to forge their ability to be based on the future. They believe that school is not the only way out, as long as the child is interested can develop in any way. It can be seen that the concept of education in the United States is for the purpose of development, with interest as the direction.
American workers in the film think: "the Chinese do not verbally encourage him, just do not respect him. “This idea of American workers is a reflection of the differences in the concept of education between China and the United States. “Americans have been educated in praise since childhood, and every American is a little overconfident and has to go along with donkeys, " the trainer said in a class for Chinese employees. “It was only when I saw this that I changed my original confusion about the attitudes and practices of American workers. Americans generally believe that in the process of educating a child, if blindly emphasize the child's shortcomings, not in correcting the child's behavior or ideas, but in triggering his inferiority complex. To this end, the mission of education in the United States is to identify and make up for the shortcomings of children. Affirm what the child does, praise the child's conclusions after independent thinking, protect and inspire all the ideas and attempts of the child. Everyone has untapped abilities, giving people a little encouragement can make them more actively adjust themselves, know themselves, more conducive to the growth of children.

Conclusion:
Many scenes and details in "American factory" reflect the uniqueness of American culture. To treat the cultures of different nationalities, we should respect differences, understand personalities, communicate on an equal footing and learn from each other. Only in this way can people develop their ability to adapt to cross-cultural communication, help to cross the cultural divide and the integration of global cultures, effectively avoid misunderstandings between the two sides of communication due to cultural differences.
