Independent Kazakhstan: Achievements in educational system

This year the 3-th anniversary of Kazakhstan’s independence has been marking. During this period, the country has undergone transformations in all spheres of life.

I’d like to share with audience the changes have taken place in educational system of the Republic of Kazakhstan

In March 2010, Kazakhstan officially joined the Bologna Declaration and became the 47th member of the European Higher Education Area and the first Central Asian state to be recognized as a full member of the European Educational Area. Kazakhstan's universities have joined the Great Charter of Universities, which is currently signed by more than 650 universities around the world, which will bring domestic education closer to European standards. After joining to the Bologna Declaration the higher education transited to a three-level model of training specialists: bachelor-master-Doctor Ph.D., based on the principles of the B.D. The European Credit Transfer System has been adopted as the basis for the transfer of credits in the course of academic mobility of students, and the new ECTS Guidelines are being implemented. Advanced technologies and training systems have been introduced into the educational process of higher education institutions: all higher education institutions have implemented credit technology of training.

The Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan allocates funds for academic mobility of teaching staff and students, and universities themselves allocate funds for academic mobility. According to the official data of the Centre for the Bologna Process and Academic Mobility, many foreign scientists were invited by Kazakhstani universities. Cooperation with foreign professors gives our universities many opportunities in teaching, especially for students of international relations faculties to be taught by the native speakers.

One more very important some kind of innovation is The Bolashaq, the international educational program, which was launched by the first President Nazarbayev at the dawn of independence in 1993, is also one of the other significant achievements. Over the past period, about 15,000 young Kazakhs have received education in the world’s leading universities. At the same time, education today is a top priority in all developed countries of the world. Ensuring the quality and accessibility of education has always been among the strategic objectives of Kazakhstan. Thus, in 2018, President Nazarbayev instructed the government to increase spending on education, science, and healthcare until it reached 10 percent of GDP.

al-Farabi Kazakh National University as well having joined the Bologna Declaration has made mane changes in academic process. Elective courses can be chosen by students, programs on academic mobility as well are very popular with teachers and students. al-Farabi University has been cooperating with universities of France, Germany, Switzerland, Poland and so on.
