Simultaneous interpreting is one of the most difficult types of translation. The main feature of simultaneous interpreting is the parallel perception of the speaker's speech and the generation of speech in the target language. Preparation for such activities is quite complex, and requires not only psychological prerequisites, but also a high level of formation of certain, unique competencies.
What is the difference between a simultaneous English translator and a regular translator? The specificity lies in the fact that the person in this case performs interpretation, which can be sequential or synchronous.
Sequential translation involves a certain number of stops in the speaker's speech, so that the translator can fully listen and translate the phrase.
Simultaneous interpretation is carried out without a single pause, and the interpreter has the right to lag behind the speaker by no more than half a sentence. This means that the specialist must start translating the sentence before the speaker finishes the thought.
Simultaneous interpretation is considered the most difficult type of interpretation, so when working at large events, the simultaneous interpreters are replaced every half hour.
Among all the professions related to the knowledge of foreign languages, simultaneous interpreter is the most popular, relevant and highly paid. No international visit, press conference or business meeting with the participation of foreign persons is complete without one or more synchronized swimmers. Every year, hundreds and thousands of such meetings are held in Russia, so a real professional will never be left without a job.
Training for interpreters is carried out in many educational institutions in Kazakhstan, but working as a simultaneous interpreter requires much more than general knowledge in the field of foreign languages. The Faculty of Philology of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University offers an educational program that provides graduates with the necessary skills for simultaneous interpretation.
In addition to theoretical knowledge, students get access to audio and video materials, as well as the opportunity to communicate with native speakers, which is the best practice for future synchronizers. To strengthen their skills, students undergo internships in the media, information agencies and government agencies working at the international level.
